Experiential Learning Program

The Experiential Learning Program provides students with opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom through authentic, hands-on experiences. Designed to connect theory with real-world application, the program fosters problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking. Students are encouraged to engage with diverse contexts—locally, nationally, and globally—developing the skills, resilience, and perspectives needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Through a range of intentional activities, students can further develop their communication, analytical, and leadership skills. These include activities such as public speaking, debating, chess competitions, lunchtime interest clubs and curriculum enrichment programs where students support one another in small-group environments. By engaging in these experiences, students enhance their confidence, critical thinking, and ability to collaborate effectively.

Public Speaking Program

Throughout the year, students have the opportunity to participate in public speaking competitions against other schools. These include the Rostrum Voice of Youth Public Speaking Competition, Catholic Schools Debating Association (CSDA) Public Speaking Competition, IGSA Festival of Speech Competition and the Dame Enid Lyons Oratory Competition. Each of these opportunities offer different levels of challenge for our students.

Debating Program

There are a range of programs to cater for different levels of experience. Students wishing to try Debating for the first time at a secondary school level are encouraged to participate in the Year 7 Debating Club in Term One. This is an introductory program that is strategically placed before formal competitions begin in Terms Two and Three. It is a fantastic way to meet other Year 7 students who share similar interests. These programs are designed to introduce and develop the fundamentals of debating and are delivered in a highly social and supportive environment. Similarly, we also organise an in-house social debating competition towards the end of the year to encourage students to continue improving their craft through friendly competition with their peers. Active and maximum participation are prioritised in these programs.

The College participates in two interschool debating competitions: the Catholic Schools Debating Association (CSDA) Competition and the IGSA Archdale Debating Competition. Each competition provides students with unique challenges and varying styles of debate. To support their development, students engage in weekly training sessions throughout the competition, ensuring their critical thinking and communication skills continue to grow.

Chess Program

The Chess Program provides students with the opportunity to develop their strategic thinking, problem-solving, and concentration skills in a supportive and competitive environment. Students take part in practice sessions where they refine their techniques and learn new strategies. The program also offers opportunities to play socially with peers and also opportunities to represent the College in interschool competitions, encouraging teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship.

Clubs @ Lunch

The College offers a range of lunchtime clubs that provide students with the chance to explore interests, develop new skills, and connect with peers in a relaxed setting. The activities offered aim to provide a variety of activities that are responsive to student interests and therefore can vary from year to year. Some examples of activities that have taken place include but are not limited to, Minecraft Club, Games Club, Dungeons & Dragons Club, Animation Club, MSGlee Club etc.

Study Hub

Study Hub is a tutoring support program designed for students in Year 7 and 8, offering small-group tutoring and mentoring from former students of the College. The program helps build confidence, strengthen academic skills, and encourage positive study habits in a supportive and relatable environment. Through this mentoring approach, students will build academic confidence, strengthen core skills, and develop effective study habits that will serve students well beyond their junior years. In addition to academic growth, Study Hub fosters a culture of collaboration, resilience, and self-motivation, creating a positive space where students feel supported and empowered to achieve their best.
