Debating and Public Speaking

Through debating, students develop their skills in public speaking, and their knowledge and analysis of Australian and international issues.

Skills learned in debating have noticeable benefit to students across many areas of the curriculum and enhance their understanding of the world. Mount St Benedict College has a long tradition of excellence in Debating and Public Speaking.

Debating teams are selected from interested students from Years 7 to 12 to compete in the Catholic Schools Debating Competition and the Association of Heads of Independent Girls High Schools (AHIGHS) Archdale Competition.

Public Speaking

There are a number of opportunities for students in all years to demonstrate their 'gift of the gab' and represent the College in the Rostrum Voice of Youth, the Catholic Schools Public Speaking Competition and the Festival of Speech.
