Library

OPENING HOURS

  • Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5.00pm

The Bennies Library is a dynamic learning space, located in the heart of the College, which supports the information needs of students and staff.

The Library provides access to the College’s extensive resource collection in a comfortable, air-conditioned teaching and learning centre.

Library and information services have changed dramatically over the past decade and the Library is now a 24/7 learning centre with access to the library catalogue, subscription databases and other online digital resources. Bennies LibGuides provide students with a starting point for their research and reading needs. Our digital library SORA (School Online Reading Application) gives students access to reading material and audio recordings to use on all devices.

The Library is no longer a silent place with a range of spaces for different purposes:

  • a reading area is for quiet reflection, thinking and reading in a comfortable environment with lounges, cushions, small round tables and cushioned chairs
  • a collaborative classroom enables classes and large groups of students to work with the Teacher Librarians on acquiring information and digital literacy skills
  • senior students can access their own area for independent study.

All students and staff have their own College laptop and the Teacher Librarian works closely with teaching staff to ensure all students have the information, visual, critical and digital literacy skills essential for future focused learning.

Students are also encouraged to participate in a wide range of curriculum and extra-curricular activities supported by the Library staff: Bennies Book Club, reading competitions such as the Premier’s and the College Principal’s Reading Challenges, workshops for using the digital resources on the College laptop and Children’s Book Week and Literacy and Numeracy Week competitions.
