Through debating, students develop their skills in public speaking, and their knowledge and analysis of Australian and international issues.

Skills learned in debating have noticeable benefit to students across many areas of the curriculum and enhance their understanding of the world. Mount Saint Benedict College has a long tradition of excellence in Debating and Public Speaking. This year, over sixty girls are participating in the Catholic Schools Debating Competition, the largest competition in the Sydney Metropolitan region.

All debaters, from Year 7 to 12, also have the opportunity to participate in the Macquarie Cup Schools' Competition - an intensive day of consecutive debates in which skills are work shopped and developed.
