From the
MSBESA President
The Golden Jubilee promises to be an exhilarating year for all
members of the Mount St Benedict College community. All alumni
should have received their fridge magnet calendar of a variety of
events so make sure you ‘Save the Date!’ in your 2016 diary.
In order to celebrate this significant milestone we are pleased
to announce the College Ring will be made available next year
to all alumni for purchase. Members of the Class of 2015 were
delighted to receive their rings at their Graduation Dinner. The
Association presented the students with an engraved pen as
a memento of their school days. Our best wishes go to these
students as they begin their different journeys beyond Bennies
and we hope they will feel emboldened to remain connected to
the College community through our Association.
With the College approaching fifty the Committee has
decided to open the Sister Mary Hyacinth Roche Scholarship
to Granddaughters of Association members. Any interested
Grandmothers are directed to the College website:
for the eligibility criteria.
The Association provided the funds for the catering at Josephite
Community Aid (JCA) Family Day; this is in keeping with
our objective of supporting the College’s projects. This day
encapsulates the Benedictine spirit of hospitality. Also the
Association supported MSB Day by funding the ‘Silent Disco’.
(If you don’t know what this is ask some younger people!)
The Annual General Meeting of the Association will be held
on Monday 2 November at 6:30pm in the College Boardroom.
All members of the Association are encouraged to attend.
Whilst I will remain involved in the Association I will not be
standing for re-election as President; it is time for a fresh
voice and new eyes. It has been a stimulating and rewarding
experience. I wish to acknowledge the wonderful support I
have received from Mrs Pearson and the staff. A constant has
been the immensely helpful and enthusiastic assistance from
Archives and Development Assistant, Michelle Blackman and
Marketing Manager, Kylie Gray. Also I wish to acknowledge the
2014 and 2015 Committees who have generously participated
in Association activities and meetings. I believe we have made
progress in making the Association more actively involved in
the College and I am confident it will continue to blossom.
