Emily Michell wins
Pierre de Coubertin Award
Congratulations to Emily Michell (Y12) who was presented with
the Prestigious Pierre de Coubertin Award at the Australian
Olympic Academy Day. Emily received her award from dual
Olympian Youcef Abdi (1500m / Steeplechase Beijing 2008,
London 2012). Emily has competed for the school in 24
representative sports teams during her time at the College.
This year she has competed in Touch, Triathlon, Basketball,
Swimming, Cross Country, Netball and Athletics. She
progressed to Broken Bay representation in Cross Country,
Athletics and NSW CCC representation in Swimming. Emily has
also represented the College at a national level (2011, 2012,
2013 KO Athletics Teams) contributing to two national medals.
She displays great sportsmanship and was also recently
awarded the Y12 Sports Woman of the Year Principal’s award.
Cross Country
Our Cross Country girls have brought home the Broken
Bay Championship trophy an incredible eight times in the
past nine years! Jemma Gallagher (Y8), Elly Gallagher
(Y9), and Kirsten Simpson (Y10) went on to compete at the
NSW All Schools Championships with Elly finishing 8th in
the U15 event.
Our Open Soccer Team had a great year finishing as undefeated
Broken Bay Champions and earning the right to compete in
the NSW CCC Knock-Out Competition. After winning their
way through to the quarter finals an injury plagued team was
narrowly beaten 1-0 in the quarter finals. Many of these girls
have a strong representative history with MSB and the Schools’
Pathway with Natalie Tobin and Annabelle Doheny once again
selected into the Broken Bay Team and youngsters Alex Black
and Grace Gibbeson from Year 9 joining them. Natalie was
again selected into the NSW All Schools Team and we wish her
well as she continues her career with Sydney FC.
Well done to our Junior and Intermediate girls who won their
divisions at the Broken Bay Championships. In addition five
of the seven Age Champions were from MSB!
