There was a buzz of excitement from the moment the
new College musical for 2017, ‘High School Musical’ was
announced. Girls were singing and dancing their way through
the hallways in eager anticipation of another Bennies high
quality musical production.
A cast of over 130 girls from across
Years 7-12 took to the stage in June
for three sold-out performances and
due to popular demand, a fourth
show was added.
Musical Director and Head of CAPA,
Mr Peter Watters was delighted
with the community response, “The
2017 High School Musical On Stage
journey broke new records with
tickets sold out after two days and a fourth show released. We
entertained over 2,300 people and a recent video on social media
has had over 5,400 views. Over six months 132 cast, 80 crew
and more than 20 staff, worked together to bring this Disney
hit to the stage. The show brought the community together and
celebrated the outstanding talent of our Bennie’s girls. Thank
you to the families, friends, colleagues, current and ex-students,
plus others who attended.”
With a plot described as a modern adaptation of
and with similarities to the film
Grease, High School
is a story about two
sophomores from
– Troy Bolton, captain of the
and Gabriella Montez, a shy transfer student who excels in
. Together, they try out for the lead
parts in their high school
and as a result, divide
the school. Despite other students’ attempts to thwart their
dreams, Troy and Gabriella resist peer pressure and rivalry,
inspiring others along the way not to “stick to the status quo”.
