Local Op Shop Supporting the Good Samaritan Foundation
Lifelong Friends
Monica and her family have opened
an op shop, Jospehine’s Emporium
at Thornleigh and according to
experienced op shop lovers it’s a very
special place with a wonderful collection
of clothes, jewellery, accessories, and
lots of one-of-a-kind products.
Jospehine’s Emporium is one of the
not-for-profit works of the Mary Brown
Memorial Foundation, set up by the Brown
Family, under the direction of Monica
Brown an ex-student and former College
Captain of Mount St Benedict College.
Because of the strong Good Samaritan connection, the op shop
will be donating profits to the Good Samaritan Foundation. The
MSB community can support this worthy charity while at the
same time enjoying some great op shopping at 8D Station St
Thornleigh (opposite Aldi).
Philippa Mercer, Mount St Benedict College Mission
Coordinator has organised for students to volunteer in the
shop and help set up their social media and webpages. The
Brown Family are grateful for the support and collaboration
from the College.
Bennies Bushcare
Class of 1982 ex-students, Michelle
Bousfield and Sue Martin have become
involved with Bennies Bushcare. If you
are interested in contributing to this
rejuvenation project, they meet in the
College’s Ludovic bushland at 9am
on the 2nd Friday and 4th Saturday
of the month and work under the
guidance of National Trust. No
experience necessary.
Five ex-Bennies best friends; myself,
Helen (McMahon), Fran (Gillard),
Karen (Fayers) and Bernie (Coates)
have been friends since completing
Year 12 in 1976. In 2012, we decided
to trek the Milford Track over four
days, which was the catalyst for more
adventures and memories. We have
remained school besties despite
leaving school over 40 years ago and
jokingly now refer to ourselves as the
Milford Sisters!
In 2015, we did it again with a road
trip and walking tour around Cradle
Mountain. We have just returned
from two weeks trekking sections
of the Larapinta Trail in the West
McDonnell Ranges (130kms west of
Alice Springs); then on to the top-
end exploring Litchfield, Katherine
and spending time in the indigenous
community in Daly River, where Fran
and her husband work. These trips
are always full of fun and although
challenging at times cement our
special lifelong friendships.
We are now planning our next trip in 2019!
