VISUAL ARTS / VISUAL DESIGN / PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEO AND DIGITAL IMAGING

Students at Mount St Benedict engage with Visual Arts in the mandatory course in Years 7 and 8 and can pursue it as an elective from Year 9 to Year 12. Visual Arts provides the students with opportunities to explore both traditional approaches, such as drawing and painting to the newer technologies such as digital photography and film. Practical components are matched with Critical and Historical Studies so that students gain an understanding of artist’s practice.

Students in both the mandatory and elective classes experience art with excursions to the Art Galley of NSW, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the popular ‘Sculpture by the Sea’. Such experiences help students reinforce artist’s practice and operating within the context of the art world. Elective Visual Arts / Visual Design / Photography, Video and Digital Imaging students can participate in a yearly Creative and Performing Arts Evening by having their artworks selected to be exhibited. This provides an opportunity to experience having an audience for their artworks.

Each year the NSW Department of Education and Training presents ArtExpress, a selection of exemplary major works from Higher School Visual Arts students. The HSC Visual Arts candidates on the honor roll are:

  • 2014 - Kirsty Smith - Nomination and Selection
  • 2014 - Ellen Schiffler -  Nomination
