Vocational and Education and Training (VET)

“I have wanted to be a chef since a young age. Completing the Hospitality commercial cookery course at school has only strengthened my passion to follow this career path. After completing my second work placement week I was offered an apprenticeship which I am taking up after completing my HSC.” Lauren
“I was successful in obtaining an accounting cadet-ship with Price Waterhouse Coopers. At my interview the panel were impressed I had completed accounting at TAFE as a subject for my HSC. I am sure this helped in me being offered the cadetship and it has also assisted me with my university studies.” Christine

Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses provide students with the opportunity to gain practical work skills and knowledge as well as vocational qualifications as part of their senior school studies.

At Mount St Benedict College we are able to offer vocational courses within the College timetable as well as access to a wide variety of courses offered by TAFE NSW and other specialist private providers.

All VET courses count towards completion of either Year 11 and/or Year 12. Students taking these courses are assessed as either competent or not yet competent in their knowledge and work skills against standards set by the related industry.

An optional HSC exam is available in some courses and if completed can be counted towards a student’s ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank).
