Engaging Middle Years Students:
MYBennies Project Update
Learning Frontiers: MSB announced
as a Sydney Design Hub School
Mount St Benedict College was announced in March
2014 as one of 10 Sydney schools to work on the Learning
Frontiers project with AITSL (Australian Institute for
Teaching and School Leadership) and the Innovation Unit
(UK). There are four high level design principles at the
heart of Learning Frontiers. All of these design principles
are central to the work of the MYBennies project to engage
middle years students which was discussed in the previous
issue of Bennies Buzz.
The images in this article indicate a variety of ways in which
teaching staff and their faculties are currently working with
students to engage learning in the middle years.
Engaged learning is
CO-CREATED
it draws on both adults and students as a powerful
resource for the co-creation of community, the
design of learning and the success of all students.
Engaged learning is
PERSONAL
it builds from student’s passions and capabilities,
and helps them to personalise their learning and
assessment in order to foster their individual talents.
Engaged learning is
CONNECTED
it connects with and uses real-world contexts
and contemporary issues, and is permeable to
the rich resources available in the community
and the wider world.
Engaged learning is
INTEGRATED
it emphasises the integration of subjects,
of students and of learning contexts.
